Ensuring sustainability in Qatar’s tourism industry

by  — 11 June 2013

Promoting energy efficient solutions in Qatar’s hospitality sector was the focus of a recent event organised by Qatar Green Building Council.

As the number of hotels continue to grow in Qatar, sustainability in the tourism industry has emerged as a major concern.

The interactive workshop held under the banner of Qatar Green Building Council was titled Breaking Down Barriers to Enhance Sustainability.

Tony Williams who represented Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) on behalf of QTA chairman Engineer Issa Al Mohannadi talked about the goal of QTA to ensure sustainability in all tourism developments in the country.

The latter part of the event featured presentations by tourism and sustainability experts, focusing on the economic impacts, issues of ethical buying to maintain sustainability, carbon footprints by the hotel industry and key areas of sustainability in the tourism sector.

Held on June 9, the objective of the workshop was to generate a roadmap for Qatar’s tourism and hospitality sector which, once endorsed, would be used as a tool to develop and improve the hospitality sector in the State of Qatar.
